Digital technologies and AI can play a pivotal role in achieving the SDGs defined by the United Nations. These technologies can be employed beneficially, for instance to increase financial inclusion, enhance government efficiency, tackle poverty, and more. However, digital technologies also add new hurdles in the race to realize the SDGs, such as spreading misinformation or undermining trust in institutions.
Event details of Workshop with Joyeeta Gupta on AI and the UN Sustainable Development Goals
Date
26 September 2024
Time
13:00 -17:00

Professor Joyeeta Gupta, recently appointed as co-chair of the United Nations 10-Member-Group, is eager to hear from the UvA community how AI can either help or hinder to reach the 17 Sustainable Development Goals. Your expertise is strongly needed to come to a balanced view.

Therefore all four of UvA’s IP Themes will collaborate and invite you to participate in an interactive workshop. In this workshop, we encourage you to share your insights with Joyeeta and your UvA colleagues: from your own experience, what lessons learned do you want to share with the UN? What do we need to be aware of when we use AI and digital technologies?

To kick off the day, an expert panel discussion will set the stage, where Dick den Hertog, Marc Salomon, Kristina Irion, Ana Oprescu, and Sennay Ghebreab will reflect on the constructive or disruptive role that AI can have.

As a nice side-effect, you will have another good opportunity to strengthen research partnerships with colleagues from different UvA faculties.

If you want to join this workshop, just confirm your presence by accepting the Outlook Invite. If you did not receive one, please send an email to: usp@uva.nl.

We look forward to meeting you on 26 September,

also on behalf of Joyeeta Gupta,
