Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) is radically changing how we perceive the relations between humans and machines. Across the UvA, excellent researchers and initiatives address these issues from a wide variety of disciplines and perspectives, often in collaboration with non-academic partners.
GenAI & Creative Practices: Past, Present, and Future

This international conference, organised by Responsible Digital Transformations on 17 & 18 December 2025, will bring together scholars, researchers, and practitioners to critically examine the evolving relationship between Generative AI (GenAI) and creative work. Keynote speakers: Baptiste Caramiaux, Pei Sze Chow, Max Schich & Naureen Mahmood.

How will AI affect the creative sector?

Tools like ChatGPT, Gemini and Midjourney offer unprecedented opportunities for content creation. But what are the risks and ethical issues? What new challenges does the creative sector face? And how is AI changing our ideas about what creativity means? UvA researchers are investigating these questions from a wide range of disciplines - from computer science to music cognition, and from media studies to economics.
