Research software isn't (just) a product, researchers aren't clients: positioning research engineering in the research support and IT services landscape
In this seminar talk, Max Paulus will reflect on his experience as a research supporter and software trainer. What is research software? What is research infrastructure? Are they the same? And what does this mean for research support roles?
While one could argue for a strict division of labour such as software development vs. data management, the distinction between research support roles is oftentimes blurry. This has to do not only with the volatile subject of our work (research), but also with the diverse backgrounds and interests of the people filling these roles.
In his talk, Max will argue for a stronger focus on training, community, and awareness building. He will touch upon themes such as interoperability and reproducibility with concrete examples from his daily work. The presentation is targeted at both researchers and research supporters alike.
Everyone from all disciplines is welcome to attend! The presentation will take place in-person only, and there will be an opportunity to ask questions and engage in lively discussion on the day. The seminar presentation will be followed by lunch (at 12). The seminar and lunch are free but registration is mandatory.
